The Manifesto

The HumAIne Manifesto

A human-centred approach to AI. Not a how-to guide for exactly what to do, but a direction for decisions that puts human flourishing first.

No matter what, humans come first.

Not this

A rulebook for outsourced thinking.

but
This

A centre of gravity for judgment, agency, and care.

What we stand for

Four values we choose over the easier path.

We're uncovering better ways of living and working in the age of AI. The values on the right are the easier short-term path; we choose the left for the long-term wellbeing of humanity.

  • We prioritisePurposeful Useover

    Passive Consumption

  • We prioritiseActive Thinkingover

    Replacement of Thinking

  • We prioritiseHuman Agencyover

    Total Trust on Algorithms

  • We prioritiseDeepen Humannessover

    Efficiency-at-all-costs

Twelve principles

The practical spine of the manifesto.

Purposeful Use

over passive consumption

  1. 1

Welcome AI into work and life with curiosity about how it can yield long-term benefit for self and the collective.

  2. 2

Apply AI to enhance human potential, as an extension of human intelligence, not a replacement for it.

  3. 3

Exercise judgement on when to use or not use AI, based on impact on self, society, and planet.

Active Thinking

over replacement of thinking

  1. 4

Define the objective and outcome first, so thinking stays rooted in human intention, not AI suggestions.

  2. 5

Craft high-quality instructions to obtain output aligned to human goals and prevent the creation of “AI slop”.

  3. 6

Investigate how AI arrived at an output and refuse what you can’t make sense of; favour “glass box” models.

Human Agency

over total trust on algorithms

  1. 7

Build in human oversight, especially for high-risk automations, to bridge AI calculations with real-world consequences.

  2. 8

Exercise discretion when output feels unkind, unwise, or misaligned; listen to intuition for ethical and emotional depth.

  3. 9

Take ownership of AI-assisted output as if you signed your name on it, supported by others’ right to inspect how it was made.

Deepen Humanness

over efficiency-at-all-costs

  1. 10

Protect time and space to be "AI-free", allowing for deep reflection and strategic thinking.

  2. 11

Seek direct, first-hand experiences with people and places, beyond virtual ones.

  3. 12

Nurture what makes you uniquely human: higher-order thinking, creative expression, and connecting through emotion.

The living manifesto

Embrace AI.
Elevate Human Potential.

The values endure even as versions evolve. If this direction speaks to you, put your name to the movement.
